H.U.B.

(HaShem's Unfinished Business)

HUB, our vital social action group, serves the community in a variety of ways.  Our flagship project is the Alix Rubinger Kosher Food Pantry, established in 1998 to provide free food to needy families regardless of race, color, creed or ethnic group.  It is the first and only kosher food pantry on Long Island, thus also serving the special needs of the Jewish community.

Volunteers from Beth-El and the community staff the pantry, which is currently open Mondays and Thursdays, from 10AM to Noon.  Donations of non-perishable food items and money are always needed and greatly appreciated.  Packages can be placed in our "mitzvah bins" in the Synagogue lobby (but not on Shabbat, please!).  Donations may be made by check to the Alix Rubinger Kosher Food Pantry.

The Pantry is named  in loving memory of our former Rabbi's wife who was lost to us after a long illness.  She was extremely interested in developing the food pantry.  We honor her memory and her dream as we serve the needs of the greater Long Island Community.

We welcome your participation!  If you are interested in volunteering to help, please call the Synagogue office (516 541-0740).

GEMILAT CHESED COMMITTEE

(Caring Committee)

Members of the Gemilat Chesed Committee are available to Congregation members who would like our help.  We will provide assistance in many different ways, such as visit the ill, provide transportation to doctors, assist with shopping, make phone calls, and provide transportation for family members' visits to the ill.

If you would like to be part of this committee, please contact the synagogue office at (516) 541-0740.

          HONEST REPORTING. COM

If you are concerned with the way the Middle East situation is being reported in the media, please visit www.honestreporting.com.  HonestReporting scrutinizes the media for examples of bias, and then informs subscribers of any offending articles, asking them to complain directly to the news agency concerned.  This is not merely an information service; it is a way that we can respond to the media in a coordinated fashion.

HonestReporting has 100,000 members worldwide and so far, has had a great deal of success in getting news agencies to change editorial policy and to think twice before publishing an unbalanced report.

Please register with them at www.honestreporting.com and help to ensure that Israel receives the fair media coverage that every nation deserves.
